Europe’s leading health, fitness and wellness group, David Lloyd Clubs has over 134 clubs across nine European countries. Hadfield Cawkwell Davidson architects have worked with David Lloyd Clubs for over 17 years as their lead Architect on projects in the UK and throughout Europe, providing architecture, structural engineering and interior design services on both refurbishment and new build projects. We have also been responsible for the design of new concepts such as Blaze, Delta Studios, Workstation and Spa Retreats.
David Lloyd Notting Hill has recently undergone a significant £5.5 million project, further establishing it as a premier health and wellbeing destination in West London. As the lead architects for David Lloyd Clubs at Notting Hill, we have focused on enhancing the club's existing facilities and introducing a dedicated Spa Retreat. The comprehensive improvements focus on enriching the member experience across fitness, relaxation, and social spaces, facilitated by new circulation routes with a premium aesthetic.
The gym has been transformed with the introduction of state-of-the-art equipment and a redesigned layout across its existing split levels. The mezzanine level has been enhanced and now features a brand new fitness rig.
The club now features brand new, dedicated fitness studios including a Holistic Studio featuring Reformer Pilates, Mind & Body. Also newly introduced Rhythm & Cyclone Cycling Studio, and BLAZE Studios.
A key addition is the brand new Spa Retreat, offering a dedicated sanctuary for relaxation and recovery. This includes a hydropool, Fire and Ice Room, a steam room with bespoke aromatherapy, and a large Himalayan salt sauna.
The Clubroom, a central hub for members, has been reimagined to offer a refreshed dining and social area, alongside a dedicated workspace.
The swimming pool environment has also been updated with a modern aesthetic.
These improvements reflect a commitment to providing high-quality facilities that cater to the diverse needs of David Lloyd Notting Hill members, creating an even more exceptional club experience.

Hadfield Cawkwell Davidson is a leading sports and leisure facility architect based in Sheffield. With a focus on the health and wellbeing sector, we work with clients nationally and internationally to design facilities that meet the requirements for training, competition, socialising, and education in fitness and leisure. Our success as a practice is built on the talents and expertise of our team, and we are committed to continuous professional development and improvement in our designs and technical capabilities.
We have extensive experience in sports and leisure architecture, having worked on major sporting venues such as football and rugby clubs, golf driving ranges, sports centers, and an Olympic international training venue. In addition to sports facilities, we have also designed restaurants, cafes, hotels and spas, and have been involved in the design of children’s adventure and activity centers.
One of our standout projects includes the University of Surrey’s main sports facility, where we served as implementation architects and interior/branding designers. The £17 million project included a multi-purpose sports hall, changing facility, bar/restaurant, Olympic-size swimming pool, dance studio, gym, climbing wall, outdoor courts, and all-weather pitches with external changing facilities.
Our commitment to combining high-quality architectural design with commercially viable solutions has earned us a reputation as one of the leading consultants in the UK health and fitness market. We have several established long-term relationships with major leisure operators, and our expertise in sports and leisure architecture makes us the ideal partner for your next project.
